FLOWY SHORTS & BREATHABLE TOPS

This is the best I have felt since having Matthew. I fit in this outfit really well and I feel so proud of my mommy body for continuing to bounce back. I actually tried this top on one week after having Matthew and it didn't fit, so I left the store without purchasing it. Now five weeks after having Matthew, it fit, so I decided to buy it!

Sometimes looking good really makes you feel better. I am so happy to be a mommy to my two little ones. It can be rough sometimes when looking in the mirror at the scars on my stomach from the stretch marks, but I have to remind myself that those scars are a part of the journey that blessed me with my babies. Thank you Lord Jesus for providing me with Riley and Matthew!

MY BIRTH STORY

*Follow me on Instagram*

Please welcome to the world Matthew Landon! He weighed in at a whopping 8lbs. 8oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long at birth. Our little guy came in to the world after 9 minutes of pushing with the umbilical cord wrapped around his sweet little neck. The doctors were swift and cut the cord to alleviate tension and stress on Matthew.

As you all know I was passed my due date with Matthew and decided to induce to avoid any health complications with Matthew, since our first, Riley, was 8lbs. 10.5oz. We arrived at the hospital early on May 7th to get started on pitocin. I opted for an epidural around 11:45am and a few minutes later, my doctor came in at 11:52am to break my water. By 1:30pm I was 8cm dilated and preparing to push. At 2:53pm I started pushing and 9 minutes later, Matthew was delivered in to this world. That is right I said 9 minutes. I could not believe how quick and easy pushing was.

This labor and delivery experience was pure bliss. I was able to sit up in the bed in a chair like position and pull on a bar that was attached to the bed while pushing; I felt in control and comfortable. My epidural was going strong, so I barely felt any pressure, which I liked. My doctor asked me to do a push test run to see if I could deliver feeling as numb and I was and the results were good. I really liked that I didn't feel a lot of pressure while pushing, thanks to my epidural, because I was in a lot of pain with my first child and I did not want to have to go through that again.

RUNNING WITH MY BOB DUALLIE STROLLER

Running shorts Adidas | Running shoes Brooks | Jogging stroller Duallie BOB

*Follow me on Instagram*

Running has become more of a hobby ever since I became a mother. I have always enjoyed running, but even more so now that I have two kids and here is why; I can bring them with me! Being able to bring my kids with me is extremely convenient and I am so thankful for our BOB Duallie. I usually go running with them before their naps, so I can shower while they are sleeping and get some rest before we head out to do another activity in the afternoon.

The BOB is the perfect running stroller to use with kids. The optional lock in swivel wheel makes it really easy to turn and maneuver the stroller, while the size of the wheels provide a smooth ride for both you and your kids. I have researched all of the jogging strollers out there and have seen how other ones work, but the BOB is by far the best out there. The stroller never rattles, never gets stuck, and it never lets me down.

The price of a BOB is pricey, but don't let that stop you from having a great running experience with your kids. My husband gave me the option of having a fancier nursery or buying the stroller and I decided to go with the stroller. I figured I would be a much better mom for doing something that I enjoy during the day so I don't go crazy from feeling stuck. I also want my kids to see how important it is to stay healthy and active while still being able to involve your kids and I think they will get that from leading by example.

Just because you become a parent, doesn't mean you should have to drop all of your desires, hobbies, and interests. Instead, it means you have to work a little harder to make room for those things and you become more of a problem solver.

RED SHOES FOR SUMMER & MY MOMMY OF TWO EXPERIENCE

Being a mommy of two has been something else! Never did I ever expect getting out of the house to take so long. I kid you not, it takes me an hour to get ready to head out the door. I wouldn't necessarily say it is harder to be a parent of two, but I will say it is very time consuming. I feel like I do not have enough time in the day, because I am constantly shuffling between the two. That is the real hard part; time. You have to be really great at time management and that is something I am gaining a lot of practice in.

I also feel like breastfeeding is the main cause for feeling like I have no time, because it takes so long to nurse and burp our son and I am the only one that can feed Matthew. I feel like there are so many things that I want to do and my list of things to do stays initially the same at the end of every day. But lets be real, my kids won't be this age forever and I would rather spend quality time with them, then to get my 'to-do list' cleared.

A GOOD SUMMER BOOK & MY PREPPY LOOK

Summer is practically here and that means reading a good book while the kids nap. I have tried reading while Riley is awake, but it never seems to work out. My first book of the summer is titled "Heart of the Matter" by Emily Giffin. She is known for her fun sense of humor and easy to follow dialogue and I simply couldn't resist reading one of her novels.

So far, the book has revealed two main characters and their families; Tessa is a stay at home mom with a doctor for a husband, while Valerie is a working single mother. Their paths will cross at some point, but I haven't gotten to that part yet. Join me in my summer reading and discuss the plot along the way.

MARTHA STEWART (LEMON) FRENCH MACARONS

Martha Stewart's French Macarons

These Macarons are a basic and easy recipe to follow. Thanks to Martha Stewart and her genius recipe, I can make a three dollar treat right in my very own kitchen. If you don't happen to have a Kitchen Aid mixer, I suggest you buy one from Bed Bath and Beyond using a 20% off coupon. This recipe is tailored to fit the Kitchen Aid mixing speeds, so try and find one similar to it so you can follow is accordingly.

Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup sliced blanched almonds
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 large egg whites room temperature
  • Jam or other fillings
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract *this is my own addition for the flavor pictured above
Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees with rack in lower third.
  • Place almonds in a food processor about 1 minute & add confectioners' sugar; process until combined for about 1 minute.
  • Pass almond mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Transfer solids in sieve to food processor; grind and sift again, pressing down on clumps. Repeat until less than 2 tablespoons of solids remains in sieve.
  • Whisk egg whites and granulated sugar by hand to combine. Beat on medium speed (4 on a KitchenAid) 2 minutes. Increase speed to medium-high (6) and beat 2 minutes. Then beat on high (8) 2 minutes more.
  • The beaten egg whites will hold stiff, glossy peaks when you lift the whisk out of the bowl. Add flavoring and food coloring, if desired, and beat on highest speed 30 seconds.
  • Add dry ingredients all at once. Fold with a spatula from bottom of bowl upward, then press flat side of spatula firmly through middle of mixture. Repeat just until batter flows like lava, 35 to 40 complete strokes.
  • Rest a pastry bag fitted with a 3/8-inch round tip inside a glass. Transfer batter to bag; secure top. Dab some batter remaining in bowl onto corners of 2 heavy baking sheets; line with parchment.
  • With piping tip 1/2 inch above sheet, pipe batter into a 3/4-inch round, then swirl tip off to one side. Repeat, spacing rounds 1 inch apart. Tap sheets firmly against counter 2 or 3 times to release air bubbles.
  • Bake 1 sheet at a time, rotating halfway through, until risen and just set, 13 minutes. Let cool. Pipe or spread filling on flat sides of half of cookies; top with remaining half. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate.

    Filling (Blueberry Swiss Meringue Buttercream):

    • 5 large egg whites
    • 1 cup & 2 tablespoons sugar
    • pinch of salt
    • 4 sticks of unsalted butter cut in to tablespoons at room temperature
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries defrosted

    Directions:

    • Combine egg whites, sugar, and salt in the heatproof bowl of a standing mixer set over a pan of simmering water. Whisk constantly by hand until mixture is warm to the touch and sugar has dissolved (the mixture should feel completely smooth when rubbed between your fingertips).

    • Attach the bowl to the mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Starting on low and gradually increasing to medium-high speed, whisk until stiff (but not dry) peaks form. Continue mixing until the mixture is fluffy and glossy, and completely cool (test by touching the bottom of the bowl), about 10 minutes.
    • With mixer on medium-low speed, add the butter a few tablespoons at a time, mixing well after each addition. Once all butter has been added, whisk in vanilla. Switch to the paddle attachment, and continue beating on low speed until all air bubbles are eliminated, about 2 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl with a flexible spatula, and continue beating until the frosting is completely smooth. Keep buttercream at room temperature if using the same day.
    • Add blueberries and blend after each addition with the mixer (use a paddle attachment) or a flexible spatula, until desired mix is achieved.

AFTER BABY STYLE POST: WHITES, LIGHTS, & BLUE

It feels so good to put on non-maternity clothes even if I am holding my pants up with a rubber band; my mommy secret of the day! It is a good thing my husband loves my body at every size and the extra weight gives me more bass. Thank you Meghan Trainer for that lovely song.

I have been enjoying lights with one pop of color for this summer's attire, so I grabbed all of the lightest things in my closet and this beautiful royal blue shirt from Jcrew to add the pop. I chose a color that would compliment my blue eyes and blonde hair. I recommend choosing a color that will compliment your eyes and hair as well. My husband kept telling me that my eyes really stood out with the blue shirt on.

My favorite part of this outfit... two things; my NEW Kate Spade diaper bag and my Jack Rogers I received from my grandma for giving birth and turning 25! I love a great bag, I can not deny that. I have been so spoiled with gifts this year and I couldn't be more thankful for an amazing family! As I have said before; ask for a designer bag as your diaper bag. Get the bag you have been drooling over instead of that swishy diaper bag with Winnie the Pooh on it. Yes, they have made much nicer bags, but I say kill two birds with one stone and get the bag you desire the most and use it as your diaper bag and purse. See my previous post 'Adios Diaper Bag' on how to do this in my post history.

FIRST BATH WITH BAM | + | BOO TOWEL

Our first bath time at home was a success! Funnily enough, Matthew christened us with his urine and had a bowel movement within the first couple of minutes being in the tub. We couldn't stop laughing at the fact that Matthew let it all go. His poop was all over the floor of the tub and it wasn't washing down as easily as we hoped. At this point, Riley was trying to climb in the tub because we told her she was going to take a bath too. Ben and I felt outnumbered by the obstacle of cleaning up after Matthew and getting Riley to stop trying to climb in to the tub. Our bath time looked like a scene from a comedy film about two novice parents trying to take control. Just thinking back on it makes me laugh.

After bath time, we wrapped our little guy in Bam | + | Boo's bath towel. We love Bam | + | Boo for their safe and soft products. The quality of the bamboo fabric is hands down the best I have felt and recommend you try it out. I actually stopped using baby bath towels with Riley, because I thought they were too rough on her porcelain skin, but this towel is anything but rough. I can wipe Matthew's skin dry without feeling like I am scratching him. The large size of the towel is another plus; I was able to successfully wrap Matthew comfortably without his limbs falling out and getting cold. I am so glad we have this towel to keep him warm and dry.

BREASTFEEDING 101: WHAT WORKS FOR ME

*Follow me on Instagram*

Breastfeeding has been one of the most incredible journeys I have been on with my kids. It has been such a blessing to be able to nurture them solely with my breast milk. I will tell you that it has not always been easy, but it has been well worth it. I wanted to give up a few times with my first child for selfish reasons, but I stayed committed and encourage all moms to do the same for at least one year.

I know for myself, I wanted to stop after the second day I nursed my first, because I had a few blisters and didn't feel comfortable with any of the 'holds' for nursing. A few weeks in to nursing I wanted to give up again because I hated leaking everywhere and I didn't want to deal with having tender breasts anymore. Then months later I wanted to give up, because I was tired of running in to the fitting rooms to feed my daughter while I was out shopping. I was also concerned about my milk supply multiple times throughout nursing, because my daughter would eat so fast and I didn't think she was getting enough nutrients. I especially thought my daughter wasn't getting enough milk after I pumped and was only able to extract 2 ounces of milk with my breast pump.

I was so concerned and worried about my first not getting the nutrients she needed and that is when I decided to do some research and trust her growth chart. I found out that breast pumps can not extract the same amount of milk from your breasts and they can actually cause your ducts to become clogged. When nursing, you need the relief of your child's jaw movement to engage all of the ducts to release your supply of milk. I also found out that our children get all of their nutrients during the first couple of minutes of feeding, so that was no longer a worry for me either.

As for running in to fitting rooms to feed my daughter, I got over the embarrassment of 'hogging' a room when she was about 6 months old. I was sitting in a fitting room and nursing her when I looked down at an old picture of her on my phone. The developmental difference was incredible and I was overwhelmed with joy; I was her source of nourishment. I was so full of thanksgiving and overcome with happiness that I made a promise to continue to make it to one year nursing.

In regards to the leaking,  I switched from nursing pads to cheap non-scented diapers to catch my leaking milk. I am fortunate enough to have a large supply of milk, but it really irritated me at times because I would become so engorged soon after feeding. I couldn't find shirts to fit my new bust size or bras that could accommodate my 'resourceful' nursing pads. I had to get used to wearing nursing sports bras on the daily because it was the only things that would hide the diaper.

Sometimes you just have to let go of your own selfish desires to give your children the best life possible and for me, that was giving up on all above statements in order to breastfeed my first for a year and I plan to do the same with my son.

Nursing for a second time has been so much easier and everything just comes naturally for me this time around. I am able to trust my instincts so much more and not second guess myself. I like it so much more this time because I now know what to expect and how to adjust to the changes. Please feel free to comment or email me with any questions you may have.
